Passive Infrastructure refers to the physical elements that support the network, but do not actively process or transmit data. These are typically fixed components, installed as part of a building’s physical layout, and form the foundation of any network. This includes all types of network cabling, such as copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cables, which serve as conduits for data transmission. Active Infrastructure consists of all the powered and intelligent electronic devices that manage, direct, and process network data.
